City of Russell

The City of Russell, the county seat of Russell County, Kansas, was incorporated in 1872. Russell is a city of the second class and is the largest city in the county with a population of 4,506 as of the 2010 census.

Russell Recycling Program

The Russell Recycling Program is located at the corner of Elm and 9th St. In the recycling trailer you may recycle plastic, glass, aluminum, and tin. Accross the street at the City of Russell’s Public Works Building you may recycle card board and paper.

Russell County was organized in 1872 and is 1 of 105 counties in Kansas. Russell County has 8 towns, and a large portion of the residents are of German descent.

Russell Main Street, Inc.

The Russell Main Street District has been a designated Main Street Program since 1991. The Main Street program uses a common-sense approach to tackle the complex issues of revitalization, capitalizing on downtown’s history, and identifying the resources of the community itself.


Russell County Area Community Foundation

The Foundation was established by a committed group of individuals who wanted to create a vehicle that would promote giving in our community.


Russell City Police Department 

The Russell Police Department is a full-service, municipal police organization, consisting of 19 full-time and 5 part-time personnel, serving in four operating divisions.


Russell County Sheriff’s Office

Committed to the prevention of crime and the protection of life and property; the preservation of peace, order and safety; the enforcement of the laws and ordinances of our state and county; and the safeguarding of constitutional guarantees.

Russell Regional Hospital

Russell Regional Hospital is a 25 bed Critical Access Hospital. We are proud to provide high quality and compassionate care to those in need in our community and the surrounding areas.


Russell Recreation Commission

The mission of the Russell Recreation Commission is to provide recreational opportunities to enhance the quality of life for the people of the community by promoting social interaction and the productive use of leisure time.


USD 407

Unified School District 407 is a comprehensive K-12 school system located in North Central Kansas on Interstate 70. The district operates 4 attendance centers: Simpson Elementary, Bickerdyke Elementary, Ruppenthal Middle School, and Russell High School. All attendance centers are accredited with the State Department of Education.


Russell County Free Fair

The Russell County Free Fair happens every year in July. Check out their website for all details on the fair.
